Del Mar Race Track - Where The Turf Meets The Surf!

In the seaside city of Del Mar California, which is approximately 20 miles north of San Diego, lies the very popular Del Mar race track. Its slogan "Where the Turf Meets the Surf" is well known throughout the horse world. Located in the Del Mar Fairgrounds, this American Thoroughbred horse racing track boasts a capacity for 44,000 fans. It was built in 1937 and was opened with Bing Crosby personally greeting fans at the gates. Seabiscuit, one of the most renowned horses of all time, won his infamous race back in 1938 on this course. Annually, the nation's most legendary and talented horses, jockeys, trainers and handlers converge onto the fairgrounds to try their luck.

From mid-July through early September the seats are open five days a week, with the exception of Monday and Tuesday. The opening day stretch run costs $10, and drops to $6 on subsequent days. The clubhouse also charges a reasonable $20 on opening day, then decreases to $10 thereafter. On opening day they have their annual famous hats contest and party to draw in the crowds.

The site is open from 11:30 in the morning until 6:30 in the evening. The horse runs at Del Mar race track usually begin around 2 pm, except on Fridays when it is postponed until 4 pm. There are premium clubs at the locale where special treatment for clients is available. The Turf Club costs $800 per year, whereas the Saddle level costs $900, with each giving a slightly different incentive for membership.

The Seaside Stage has been upgraded for enjoyment, and is located on the west side of the grandstand area. Looking onto the Pacific Ocean, the view is spectacular for audiences. Concerts are free with the payment of admission. Diamond Club members, a group where sing up is free, may gain admission for the concerts only for $3, as long as entry is past the final competition. Those who do not sign up for the free Diamond Club membership must pay $6 for post-final race entry. In addition, club members can get free parking at the fairgrounds if they have paid for admission to the Surfside Race Place. There are also other perks that can be available for those members who are betting while watching the fun.
